Egypt, Singapore, and South Africa are some of the best locations to get bot lobbies in MW4.
-
VPNs also protect your privacy, shield you from DDoS attacks, and hide your IP address. This makes it harder for other players to identify your real IP address or target your home network with a DDoS attack when playing MW4 online.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23rd, 2026. Like previous COD titles, it uses skill-based matchmaking (SBMM) to pair you with players of a similar skill level. While this can make matches more balanced, it can also make it harder to complete challenges, level up, or just enjoy a more casual game.
Using a VPN for Call of Duty: MW4 may help you find easier lobbies, including bot lobbies, for a more relaxed gaming experience. By connecting to a server in a region with fewer active players, like Egypt, Singapore, or South Africa, you may get matched into less competitive lobbies. This gives you more room to work on challenges and level up.
However, not every VPN is suited for gaming. A good MW4 VPN should offer fast speeds, reliable connections, and a wide choice of server locations without compromising your security. In this article, I’ll cover the best VPNs for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and explain how to get bot lobbies in MW4.
How to get bot lobbies in MW4 with a VPN: step by step
Getting a bot lobby in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is easy with a VPN. A VPN lets you connect through another location, which helps you find less-competitive matches. Here's how to give it a shot:
- Choose a VPN. Get a reliable MW4 VPN like NordVPN and install it on your PC. Look for a server in a region where fewer players are likely to be online, preferably during local nighttime hours.
- Connect to a VPN server. Open the VPN app, select your preferred location, and connect. Make sure the connection is active before launching MW4.
- Install MW4 and check your connection. If you haven't already, download and install the game through Steam or your preferred launcher. If it's already installed, you can skip this step.
- Adjust your Steam download region. If you're playing through Steam, open Steam Settings → Downloads → Download Region and select a region that matches your VPN location, if available. Restart Steam if prompted.
- Launch MW4. Keep your VPN connected while you open the game and enter multiplayer. If the game won't connect or your ping is too high, try a different VPN server closer to your chosen region.
- Queue for a match. Start matchmaking and see which lobby you get. Pay attention to the connection quality and the skill level of the players you encounter.
- Try another server if needed. If you keep landing in sweaty lobbies, disconnect from the match, switch to another VPN server in a different location, and queue again. You can also try connecting during the new region's off-peak hours.
Remember that a VPN only changes the network route and the IP address that other services see. It can't force MW4 to put you in a bot lobby, and matchmaking may still prioritize factors such as skill, latency, and playlist population.
Best VPN locations for MW4 bot lobbies
Egypt, Singapore, and South Africa are the best VPN locations for finding MW4 bot lobbies based on my testing. I tested connections between 5 PM and 9 PM CDT and found these regions to be the least crowded during that time.
The best MW4 VPN location depends on where you're connecting from and when you play. Generally, look for regions where it's outside peak gaming hours. For example, if you're in Houston and want to play after work, Vietnam or India could be worth trying because it's early morning there.
As a rule of thumb, try connecting to locations where the local time is between 1 AM and 7 AM. Fewer players are usually online during these hours, improving your chances of finding easier lobbies. Experiment with different regions to see which works best for your schedule. Just keep an eye on your ping and connection stability, as a distant server can affect your gameplay.

Best VPNs for MW4 bot lobbies: detailed list
To find the best VPNs for Modern Warfare 4 bot lobbies, I teamed up with the Cybernews research team to evaluate 41 top VPNs based on reliability, connection speeds, and overall performance in MW4. I focused on VPNs with servers in countries where players commonly find bot lobbies. Below, I share my top 3 picks and my experience with each.
1. NordVPN – best VPN for Modern Warfare 4 bot lobbies overall
| Rating: | |
| Pricing: | From $3.49/month |
| Servers: | Thousands of servers in 225 locations |
| Current deal: | Black Friday offer 78% OFF NordVPN + 3 months free |
NordVPN is the best VPN for Modern Warfare 4 because I had the most success finding bot lobbies with it, without sacrificing speed or connection stability.
With the NordLynx protocol, my speed stayed at 660Mbps when connected to Singapore, compared to my baseline of 940Mbps. The ping was 267ms, which was quite good considering how far away Singapore is.
During my gaming session, the connection didn't drop even once, nor did I experience any lag spikes or other interruptions. The connection stayed stable, even when I was switching servers.
Speaking of servers, NordVPN has servers in 225 locations worldwide, so you can really experiment with different regions. I tested the Singapore, South Africa, and Egypt servers, and they gave me the most reliable bot lobbies.
I also liked that NordVPN takes security very seriously. It has leak protection working in the background, so your IP address stays hidden. It also has an audited no-logs policy and a kill switch, which cuts your internet connection if the VPN connection drops.
NordVPN is also flexible when it comes to gaming on different devices. Whether you're on PC or console, you can get NordVPN up and running. You can download the app on supported devices, set it up on a router, or share a VPN connection from a Windows PC. Plus, you can have up to 10 VPN connections on one account, so you don't have to worry about hitting any limits.

2. Surfshark – best affordable VPN for MW4 bot lobbies
| Rating: | |
| Pricing: | From $2.49/month |
| Servers: | 4,500+ servers in 100 countries |
| Current deal: | Now up to 88% OFF Surfshark + 3 months FREE |
Surfshark is the best VPN for getting MW4 bot lobbies if you’re on a budget. With plans starting at $2.49/month, you get excellent speeds, unlimited simultaneous connections, and exceptional security.
In my tests, Surfshark averaged 574Mbps when connected to Singapore, compared to my baseline speed of 940Mbps. While it was noticeably slower than NordVPN, both VPNs delivered the same ping of 267ms. More importantly, I could download files while playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 without noticeable lag or delays affecting my gameplay.
I was very satisfied with Surfshark’s overall performance. I tested its Singapore, Vietnam, and South Africa servers, and my matchmaking region changed almost instantly whenever I switched locations.
I also liked how secure my connection was. Surfshark has an automatic kill switch, while its Everlink feature automatically restores dropped VPN connections to help prevent IP leaks and keep your connection secure.
Another big plus is that Surfshark supports unlimited simultaneous connections, which is rare among VPNs. That said, I didn’t like that it offers fewer options for setting up a VPN connection on a console compared to NordVPN. If your router doesn’t support Surfshark, you’ll need an ethernet cable to share your VPN connection from a Mac or Windows PC to your PlayStation. That’s less convenient than NordVPN’s wireless connection-sharing option on Windows.

3. Proton VPN – best free VPN for Modern Warfare 4 bot lobbies
| Rating: | |
| Pricing: | From $2.99/month |
| Servers: | 20,700+ servers in 149 countries |
| Current deal: | Get up to 70% OFF Proton VPN |
Proton VPN is the best free VPN for MW4 bot lobbies. Its free version is great for testing things out, while the premium version delivers lower ping, strong security, and access to server locations worldwide.
In my tests on the premium version, Proton VPN performed well when searching for MW4 bot lobbies. It has over 20,700 servers in 149 countries, giving you plenty of locations to try. Connected to Singapore, I recorded 654Mbps speed against my 940Mbps baseline. Its ping was the lowest among the three providers I tested, at 233ms.
This performance could be partly due to VPN Accelerator, which Proton VPN claims can boost speeds by up to 400%. Proton VPN also supports WireGuard, helping maintain fast, responsive connections during MW4 matches.
Security is another strong point. Proton VPN's apps are open-source, allowing anyone to inspect their code. It also has an audited no-logs policy and leak protection to help safeguard your real IP address and reduce exposure to DDoS attacks targeting your home connection.
However, I found the setup on consoles tricky. While for PC you only have to install the app, I found fewer clear guides for router configuration and VPN connection sharing compared to NordVPN or Surfshark.
The free version also has some significant limitations. You can't manually select your server location, and speeds can be slower than on the premium plan. That makes it useful for testing how a VPN affects your MW4 connection, but I wouldn't rely on it for serious grinding or consistently trying to find bot lobbies.

Why do you need a VPN for MW4?
Getting bot lobbies is one of the main reasons to use a VPN for Modern Warfare 4, but there are a few other benefits worth considering. Here are some of the main reasons to use one:
- Get easier lobbies. Connecting to regions with less competitive matchmaking during off-peak hours can help find easier MW4 lobbies.
- Protect your privacy. A VPN hides your real IP address from other players, making it harder for them to use it to identify your approximate location or target your home network.
- Reduce the risk of DDoS attacks. By masking your IP address, a VPN can make it harder for other players to target your connection with a DDoS attack.
- Avoid ISP throttling. If your internet provider limits your bandwidth based on your online activity, a VPN helps you avoid activity-based throttling by encrypting your traffic.
- Try different matchmaking regions. A VPN lets you connect through servers in other countries, giving you more flexibility to test which regions offer better matchmaking conditions at different times.
What to look for in an MW4 bot lobby VPN
When looking for a VPN to get COD: Modern Warfare 4 bot lobbies, there are a few things to consider to keep your gaming sessions smooth and avoid unnecessary frustration. Here’s what to look for:
- Speeds. Make sure your VPN can handle online gaming without adding too much latency or causing lag. Check expert reviews with speed test results, or run your own tests. WireGuard is one of the best protocols for fast connections, but some providers also offer proprietary protocols optimized for speed.
- Servers. Check how many servers a VPN has, if the provider discloses this information, and how many countries it covers. More countries give you more locations to try when looking for bot lobbies, while a larger server network increases your chances of finding a less crowded server with stable speeds. Keep in mind that a VPN location doesn't guarantee bot lobbies.
- Kill switch. A kill switch cuts off your internet connection if the VPN connection drops, preventing your real IP address from being exposed. It also helps ensure your connection doesn't suddenly switch to your regular network mid-match, which could disrupt your session or reveal your actual location to game servers.
- Security. Look for features like IP and DNS leak protection, a strict no-logs policy backed by independent audits, and strong encryption. These help protect your privacy while gaming. A reliable VPN should also offer modern protocols and regular security updates to keep your connection protected.
What is a Modern Warfare 4 bot lobby?
A bot lobby in Modern Warfare 4 is a match filled with bots or low-skill opponents, often newer or less experienced players. These lobbies give you a chance to rack up kills, complete weapon challenges, level up faster, and enjoy a more relaxed gaming experience without having to fight highly competitive opponents every match.
Modern Warfare 4 uses SBMM, which matches you with players based on your performance and skill level. As you improve, matches become more difficult, making it harder to maintain a high kill count or complete certain challenges. That's why some players look for bot lobbies to get easier matches and take a break from intense competition.
Can you get banned for using a VPN on MW4?
No, you won't get banned simply for using a VPN to play MW4. Activision's Terms of Use don't explicitly prohibit VPN use.
However, using a VPN to facilitate boosting, spoofing, or other forms of cheating could lead to account restrictions. Under Section 3(C)(i) of Activision's Terms of Use, you agree not to:
“use, develop, host or distribute cheats, automation software (bots), modded lobbies, hacks, mods or any other unauthorized third-party software in connection with the Product, or engage in any form of cheating, boosting, or booting”
This means that using a VPN alone isn't grounds for a ban under the cited rules, but using it as part of cheating or boosting could put your account at risk. If you're using a VPN to protect your privacy or change your connection route, that's different from using it to manipulate matchmaking or gain an unfair advantage.
Final thoughts
Modern Warfare 4 bot lobbies can make matches more relaxed, help you rack up kills, and give you more time to complete challenges. Using a VPN for MW4 is a great way to find less crowded servers and improve your chances of getting into these lobbies.
Based on my testing, NordVPN is the best VPN for Modern Warfare 4. It combines fast speeds with servers in 225 locations, giving you plenty of options to try different regions and find less crowded lobbies. It also offers strong security features that help protect your connection from DDoS attacks.
